Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
The first stage of the Forgotten Way from Bilbao is a transitional journey that takes the pilgrim out of the great city. The route is demanding, with an initial strong climb to leave the valley of Bilbao behind. The path enters the Las Encartaciones region, in a landscape combining industrial zones with green valleys and mountainous areas. It's an episode that requires patience to leave the asphalt behind. Arrival in Güeñes, a town with a rich medieval heritage of tower houses, offers well-deserved rest in a more rural environment.
The Forgotten Way begins in vibrant Bilbao. The first stage is a challenge, not just for the incline, but also for navigating the exit of a large city. The path ascends up the slopes of Mount Kobetas, offering stunning views of Bilbao and its bay. Having left the city behind, the route enters the Las Encartaciones region, a land of green valleys and a strong industrial tradition.
