Stage Description
This stage borders the southern shore of Lake Thun from Interlaken. It is a day of great beauty, with an undulating profile and spectacular views of the lake and mountains. The route passes through prehistoric caves and small villages with charm. The arrival in the picturesque town of Spiez, dominated by its beautiful castle on the lake's shores, is a postal endpoint. This stage combines nature, history, and the beauty of one of Switzerland's most famous lakes.
The 18.5 km stage from Interlaken to Spiez takes the pilgrim along the southern shore of the second large lake in the region, Lake Thun. The route starts at Interlaken (563 m) and follows a path that offers constant panoramic views of the lake and the Niesen mountain range. The profile is undulating with continuous ups and downs that, although not extreme, require constant effort. A point of great interest on the route are the caves of St. Beatus (St. Beatus-Höhlen), an impressive cave system with underground waterfalls linked to the legend of the hermit who evangelized the region. The route also passes through charming villages like Merligen. Arrival in Spiez (560 m) is spectacular. The bay of Spiez, with its medieval castle, Romanesque church and small port, is considered one of Europe's most beautiful. It is an stage that perfectly combines the natural beauty of the lake and alpine landscape with historical and geological points of interest, culminating in a dream destination.
