Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage moves away from Lake Thun to venture into the interior, in a landscape of hills and smaller lakes. It is a short and pleasant journey that allows you to enjoy the tranquility of Bernese countryside. The path leads to Amsoldingen, a small village with an impressive Romanesque church of the 10th century, one of the oldest in the region.
The Spiez to Amsoldingen stage is a short 12km journey that serves as a transition between the lake district and the interior hills of Bern canton. The trail leaves bustling Spiez (560m) and ventures into a rural landscape of gentle hills, meadows, and small forests. The profile is a gentle but constant ascent. The route is peaceful and well-signposted, offering a very pleasant hiking experience. The main attraction of the stage is its destination: Amsoldingen (645m). This small village houses an important monumental complex. Its church, the ancient collegiate church of St. Maurice, is one of Switzerland's most important pre-Romanesque buildings, dating back to the 10th century. Next to the church stands a castle and a small lake, creating a beautiful and serene ensemble. It is a perfect stage for a relaxed morning hike that culminates in an immersion into medieval history in a rural and peaceful setting.
