Stage Description

This stage leaves the lake behind as it ascends towards the spiritual heart of Switzerland. It is a pilgrimage journey in its finest form, which takes the pilgrim to Flüeli-Ranft, the home of the country's patron saint, Saint Nicholas of Flue. The path is demanding, with an ascending profile, but the spiritual reward is immense. The landscape changes, moving from the lake shore to a more austere and contemplative mountain environment. The arrival at the sanctuary is a moment of profound peace and reflection.
The Buochs to Flüeli-Ranft stage is a 18.2 km journey of great significance on the Jacob's Way. The route leaves the shores of Lake Four Cantons (435 m) and begins an unrelenting ascent towards Switzerland's spiritual heart. The path enters a landscape of hills and alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of the lake that is left behind. The profile is demanding, with an altitude gain of over 300 meters, but the natural surroundings and symbolic significance of the destination make the effort worthwhile. The route passes through small villages and farms in a tranquil atmosphere. Arrival at Flüeli-Ranft (750 m) is a highlight moment. This small town was the home of Saint Nicholas of Flüe (Brother Klaus), Switzerland's patron saint, a mystic and hermit who played a crucial role in the country's history. Visiting his birthplace, the hermitage where he lived, and the sanctuary is an experience of profound peace and inspiration. It's a stage that combines the physical challenge of the mountain with a deep immersion into Switzerland's spiritual heartland.
