Stage Castilblanco de los Arroyos to Almadén de la Plata

The stage between Castilblanco de los Arroyos and Almadén de la Plata is one of the most beautiful and wildest of the Vía de la Plata in its Andalusian section. The pilgrim is completely immersed in the Parque Natural de la Sierra Norte de Sevilla, an area of dehesas and Mediterranean scrubland of enormous ecological value. The day's profile is a continuous up and down which, without any major passes, gradually builds up considerable elevation gain, making it a demanding stage.

The route runs almost entirely along forest tracks and paths, far from tarmac and noise. Solitude is one of the dominant notes of the day, so it is an ideal day for introspection and for enjoying the landscape. It is common to see local wildlife, such as deer or wild boar, and large birds of prey in flight. One of the key points is the crossing of the Arroyo de las Víboras. It must be stressed that there is no supply point anywhere along the route, so you have to leave Castilblanco with enough water and food for the whole day.

Arriving at Almadén de la Plata, a village of white houses that seems anchored in time, is both a relief and a reward. Its mining past, which gives it its name, and its setting in the heart of the sierra give it a special character. Its services, though basic, are enough for the pilgrim to recover strength and enjoy the hospitality of the sierra.
