Stage Description
Continuing on the Winter Way, this stage enters the heart of Deza countryside. The profile is undulating, with a continuous rise and fall through a landscape of forests, meadows, and maize fields. It's a transition day that brings the pilgrim closer to Galicia's interior plateau. Arrival in Rodeiro, a peaceful cattle village offering basic services, is a well-deserved rest after a moderately difficult hike. The route allows for authentic rural Galicia to be enjoyed, with its stone architecture and natural surroundings.
The stage linking Chantada with Rodeiro is the great mountain stage of the Camino de Invierno. The pilgrim faces the climb to Monte Faro, the highest point on the whole route. The ascent is long and sustained, and it calls for good physical preparation. As you gain height, the views over the Ribeira Sacra become breathtaking. At the summit, more than 1,100 metres up, stands the ermita de Nuestra Señora de O Faro, an important centre of Marian devotion. The panoramic views from here, taking in all four Galician provinces on clear days, are unforgettable. Beyond the summit a long descent begins towards the Deza region. The landscape changes, and the vineyards give way to meadows and woodland. Arriving in Rodeiro, a quiet cattle-farming town, marks the end of the stage. It is the ideal place to recover from such a great effort.
