Stage Description
This moderate-distance stage concludes with the final ascent to the beautiful town of Citerna. The route leaves the Tiber valley for an ascent up this hill, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the valley. The climb is demanding but the visual reward is immense. Citerna, one of Italy's "most beautiful villages", is a perfect ending point that combines a flat section with a final challenge, a perfect balance on the trail.
The Città di Castello to Citerna stage is a 19.4 km journey that enters the Upper Tiber Valley. The trail begins in Città di Castello (288 m) and follows an ascending profile, with continuous uphill climbing towards Citerna (480 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, featuring hills, forests, and fields of cultivation. It is an demanding hike requiring good physical preparation. The arrival at Citerna, one of Italy's "most beautiful villages", is a reward for the effort. Its heritage, including its walls and San Francesco church, and its medieval atmosphere, make it a very special stop. This stage combines a great physical challenge with mountain beauty and a final in a town offering rich cultural and gastronomic offerings.
