This is the longest stage of the North section of the Via di San Francesco, a true challenge for the pilgrim. The route is a continuous up and down through the shadowy hills, with a beautiful landscape. It's a journey that requires excellent physical and mental preparation. The arrival at the monumental Città di Castello, with its rich artistic heritage and lively atmosphere, is an unbeatable reward to the effort.
The Pietralunga to Città di Castello stage is the longest of the Via del Nord, a 30.1 km marathon that culminates in one of Umbria's most important cities. The route starts at Pietralunga (566 m) and follows an undulating profile with a gentle overall descent towards Città di Castello (288 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape with hills, forests, and cultivated fields. It is an demanding walk due to its length, which requires good physical and mental preparation. Arrival in Città di Castello is a moment of great excitement. The city, with its impressive heritage that includes works by Raphael, is an architectural gem.
