Stage Description

This is a prologue stage, a brief urban stroll that serves as an exit from the capital and takes the first steps on the Camino Manchego. The route connects Ciudad Real's city center with its neighboring local town of Miguelturra. The journey is entirely flat and urban. It is a symbolic day, ideal for obtaining the credential and acclimatizing. Miguelturra, known for its carnivals, offers an initial encounter with Manchegan culture and hospitality before venturing into the vast plains that will characterize the following stages.
The Camino Manchego begins in the heart of Ciudad Real, starting from the Cathedral of Santa María del Prado. This first stage is actually a brief prologue, a symbolic walk that connects the capital with its neighboring local town of Miguelturra. The route is entirely urban and flat, a stroll that serves to stretch one's legs and mentally prepare for the adventure about to begin. It allows the pilgrim to familiarize themselves with the first signs of the path while leaving behind the city's bustle. Despite its short distance, the stage has its charm. It unites two populations with a historic friendly rivalry: the "culipardos" of Ciudad Real and the "churriegos" of Miguelturra. The arrival in Miguelturra introduces the walker into a famous village known for its spectacular Carnival, one of the most important in the region. Its old town, with the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, and its lively atmosphere, are a good introduction to La Mancha. This initial stage is perfect for those arriving in Ciudad Real in the afternoon, allowing them to take their first steps, stamp their credencial, and spend the night in a more tranquil environment before facing the first major stage across the Manchegan plain.
