Stage Description

Short stage of about 17 km in the heart of the region of the Cider. The route is undulating between meadows and pomaradas (apple orchards), crossing villages with centuries-old granaries. Villaviciosa, known as the 'apple capital of Spain', is the most important natural cider producing center in the country. The stage can also be combined with a detour to the pre-Romanesque church of San Salvador de Valdediós (9th century, BIC).
The Camino de Uclés begins in Madrid, at the church of Santiago. This first stage is a departure from the great city in a southeast direction. The path seeks out the greenest areas possible, following the course of the Manzanares River through the Linear Park of Manzanares. It's a flat and easy stage, ideal for an initial contact. The landscape is a mix of urban surroundings and riverine fluvial environment. Arrival in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, a city of new development, marks the end of the stage. Its location, at the confluence of the Jarama and Manzanares rivers, gives it great natural value. It's a functional stop that allows pilgrims to have a quiet rest before entering the Alcarria plain.
