Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

A stage where the Camino del Norte forks: one variant continues north to Gijón (this stage) and another to Oviedo to connect with the Camino Primitivo. The 30 km to Gijón run along the Asturian coastline with continuous views of the Bay of Biscay. Gijón, the main city of Asturias, offers the hill of Santa Catalina with the Eulogy of the Horizon by Chillida, the neighborhood of Cimavilla with its cider houses and the beach of San Lorenzo in the heart of the city.
The stage that links Rivas-Vaciamadrid with La Poveda is an immersion in the Southeast Madrid Regional Park. The path is completely flat and runs through a landscape of great ecological value. The route follows the valleys of the Jarama and Manzanares rivers, through a environment of floodplain meadows, lagoons, and limestone cuts. It's a paradise for birdwatchers, as the area hosts a great diversity of aquatic birds. It's a stage for walking without hurry, enjoying nature at the gates of the big city. The arrival at La Poveda, a nucleus belonging to Arganda del Rey, is the end of the journey. It's a quiet place that allows for restorative relaxation in a natural setting.
