Stage Description
This stage continues through the Plain of Tierra de Campos, in a flat terrain and with no difficulties. The landscape remains dominated by cereal fields. It is a transitional day that brings the pilgrim closer to the historic village of Sahagún. The route passes through the local town of Villalón de Campos, an important regional center. The destination is Santervás de Campos, a village with great historical importance, as it is the birthplace of Juan Ponce de León, discoverer of Florida. It is a stage to enjoy the tranquility and history of the Meseta.
The journey between Cuenca de Campos and Santervás de Campos is a continuation of the crossing through the Land of Campos. The profile is flat and the road runs on dirt tracks. The landscape remains that of the great Castilian plains. The most important locality in the route is Villalón de Campos, an important regional center with a beautiful Plaza Mayor and an interesting Gothic roll. It's a good place for an intermediate stop. The end of the stage arrives at Santervás de Campos. This town has the honor of being the birthplace of Juan Ponce de León, the famous explorer who discovered Florida. You can visit the church where he was baptized. Santervás is a quiet place, ideal for rest before the final stage of the Madrid Way.
