Stage Description

This is the last stage of the Madrid Way. It's a short and flat journey that brings the pilgrim to the historic village of Sahagún, where the route meets the bustling French Way. The route is an enjoyable stroll through the Land of Fields. The arrival at Sahagún is a moment of great symbolism. This village, cradle of Mudéjar art, was one of the most important monastic centers of the Middle Ages. The convergence with the French Way marks the end of the solo journey and the incorporation into the large stream of pilgrims towards Santiago.
The final stage of the Madrid Way is a short and exciting journey that connects Santervás de Campos with Sahagún. The profile is completely flat, a last stroll through the Land of Campos before the great convergence. The path advances on dirt tracks in an environment of great tranquility. Arrival at Sahagún is a very special moment. Here, the pilgrim of the Madrid Way joins the French Way. The atmosphere changes entirely, and the solitude of previous stages gives way to the bustle and multiculturalism of the main route. Sahagún is a village of immense historical and artistic importance. It is the birthplace of Mudéjar art, its churches of San Tirso and San Lorenzo are two masterpieces. The ruins of the Monastery of St. Benedict, one of the most powerful in Christendom, and the Pilgrim's Sanctuary complete an exceptional heritage. It is the perfect ending to the Madrid Way and an unbeatable starting point for continuing on to Santiago.
