Stage Description

A stage through the heart of the Subbetic countryside of Cordoba. The 20 km link Encinas Reales with Lucena, the historic capital of the medieval Jewish Eshcol-Aram and today one of the most prosperous towns in the Subbetica of Cordoba. The route crosses seas of olive groves, with the characteristic landscape dotted with white farmhouses and centuries-old olive groves. Lucena stands out for its baroque heritage, its parish church of San Mateo (with the Sagrario Chapel, considered the pinnacle of Andalusian baroque) and its rich gastronomy based on extra virgin olive oil.
This short stage joins two of the most important villages on the Camino in Galicia. The route is a continuous rise and fall through a rural landscape of great beauty, with forests and villages. The most important milestone is arriving at Melide, where the French Way meets the Primitivo. Melide is an obligatory stop to taste its famous "á feira" octopus dish. It's a day to enjoy the pilgrim atmosphere and local cuisine.
