Stage Description

This stage marks the beginning of the ascent to Palentina Mountain. The profile becomes more demanding, with a continuous up and down through a landscape of hills and valleys. The route enters the La Ojeda comarca, famous for its exceptional concentration of Romanesque churches. It's a day of great beauty and cultural richness. The destination, the small village of Perazancas de Ojeda, hosts San Pelayo church, a jewel of Romanesque art.
The route that starts in Herrera de Pisuerga is one of the most interesting stages of the Castellano Lebaniego Way, as it enters the La Ojeda comarca, a territory that holds one of Europe's most important collections of Romanesque art. The profile of the stage is a continuous rise and fall, a "steep climb" that demands good effort. The landscape changes, and the plain gives way to hills and valleys, with oak forests and a more mountainous atmosphere. The route passes through several small villages that house beautiful Romanesque churches, such as Moarves de Ojeda's church, with its spectacular sculptural frieze. The stage ends in the small village of Perazancas de Ojeda, where one can find San Pelayo Church and hermitage, another magnificent example of Romanesque art, making it a perfect place for those who love art and history to relax in an authentic rural setting.
