Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

At this stage, the pilgrim crosses the invisible border between the Valencian Community and Castile-La Mancha, entering the province of Albacete. The landscape transforms into characteristic Manchegan plain, with wide horizons and a flat terrain. It is a long and exposed day that requires good sun protection. Arrival in Almansa is a spectacular final stage, with the view of its imposing Moorish castle, perfectly preserved on a rocky hill, one of Spain's most beautiful fortresses.
The stage that connects La Font de la Figuera with Almansa is a 27.7 km journey that marks the pilgrim's entry into Castilla-La Mancha. The route leaves Valencia province and enters Albacete, changing the landscape definitively. The route starts at La Font de la Figuera (575 m) and traverses an undulating high plain with an initial climb reaching 750 meters of altitude. The landscape becomes drier and more open, with vast fields of cereal and vineyards defining the Manchegan plain. The route passes through dirt tracks and rural roads in a solitary and exposed environment that requires good preparation. Arrival at Almansa (712 m) is one of the most impactful moments on the South Camino. The city is dominated by its spectacular castle, an almohad fortress rising over a prominent rocky hill (the Eagle Hill), offering an unforgettable image. The old town of Almansa, with the Palace of the Counts of Cirat and the church of the Assumption, also deserves a visit. It's an stage that combines the hardness of the plain with the reward of one of Spain's most impressive castles.
