Stage Description

Last stage before leaving the metropolitan area of Bilbao. From Lezama, a small town in the Txorierri valley, the route advances along pedestrian lanes and bidegorri paths until entering Bilbao through the Begoña neighborhood, where the basilica, patron saint of Bizkaia, is located. The final descent leads to the Casco Viejo (Zazpi Kaleak), the medieval heart of the city, before crossing the Nervión to reach the Ensanche and the modern surroundings of the Guggenheim Museum. Short stage of about 11-13 km, mostly urban, ideal to conclude the Biscayan crossing and enjoy the pintxo-pote.
This is a short stage that has as its destination the capital of Biscay. The journey involves climbing Mount Avril, from where the first and spectacular views of Bilbao and its bay are obtained. After the descent, an urban walk leads the pilgrim through the old town of the city, the Seven Streets. Arrival at either the Basilica of Begoña or Santiago Cathedral is the end of a stage that combines the mountain with entry into one of Spain's most vibrant and modern cities.
