Stage Description

Last stage before leaving the metropolitan area of Bilbao. From Lezama, a small town in the Txorierri valley, the route advances along pedestrian lanes and bidegorri paths until entering Bilbao through the Begoña neighborhood, where the basilica, patron saint of Bizkaia, is located. The final descent leads to the Casco Viejo (Zazpi Kaleak), the medieval heart of the city, before crossing the Nervión to reach the Ensanche and the modern surroundings of the Guggenheim Museum. Short stage of about 11-13 km, mostly urban, ideal to conclude the Biscayan crossing and enjoy the pintxo-pote.
The exit from the impressive city of Toledo leads to a stage that enters into the Torrijos countryside. The profile is undulating, a gentle "breakneck" that crosses a landscape of cereal fields and olive groves. The road runs on dirt tracks and tranquil local roads, in an eminently rural environment. Passes through the locality of Rielves. Arrival at Torrijos, capital of the region, is the end of the stage. This town had great splendor during the Renaissance, and from that time it conserves a notable heritage. Its Colegiata of the Holy Sacred Sacrament is a magnificent example of the architecture of the period. Also of interest are the Palace of Pedro I and the Hospital of the Holy Trinity. Torrijos offers all necessary services for pilgrims and an authentic Castilian village atmosphere.
