Stage Description
This long and demanding stage takes the pilgrim through Poitou's countryside. The route is a continuous up-and-down, requiring good physical preparation. Arrival in Melle, a city with an impressive collection of Romanesque churches and ancient silver mines, is a monumental reward. It's a day of great effort that is widely rewarded with a destination of first order. It's a stage to enjoy Romanesque art at its maximum expression.
The Lusignan to Melle stage is a 32km long journey that takes the pilgrim through Poitou's countryside. The path starts in Lusignan (140m) and follows an undulating profile, with a gentle descent towards Melle (120m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with forests and fields of cultivation. It is a demanding hike due to its length, but it rewards with the beauty of its scenery and the grandeur of the destination. Arrival in Melle is a moment of great emotion. The city, with its impressive collection of Romanesque churches and ancient silver mines, is an architectural gem.
