Stage Description

First stage of the Argar Route, which starts in Lorca, a monumental city presided over by its medieval castle and heir to an important Argaric settlement (Bronze Age). The route leaves the Guadalentín valley and climbs progressively towards the highlands of the northwest of Murcia, crossing a steppe landscape of almond trees, esparto grass and limestone mountains. After about 30 km, with a moderate accumulated gradient, we reach Zarcilla de Ramos, a small hamlet of Lorquina known for the site of Las Cabezuelas, occupied since the Bronze Age. The austere landscape and the solitude of the route invite you to meditate on the roots of the Argar Culture.
