Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

The first stage of the Madrid Way is a long urban and periurban journey that takes the pilgrim out of the great capital. The route, mainly on asphalt, crosses the north of the city and enters the El Pardo Mount, a natural space of great value. It's a transition stage that requires patience to leave behind the bustle. Arrival in Tres Cantos, a modern and planned city, offers an end-of-stage arrival with all services and a more tranquil atmosphere than the center of Madrid.
The Camino de Madrid begins in the heart of the capital, at Santiago Church. The first stage is a challenge, not because of the slope, but due to the need to cross the great city. The route seeks out the greenest and quietest possible areas, such as the Park of Dehesa of Villa. The most important milestone of the day is passing through El Pardo Mountain, an extensive Mediterranean forest at the gates of Madrid, with great ecological value. The path crosses a dirt road, offering an unexpected breath of nature. After leaving the mountain, the route approaches Tres Cantos. The entry into this modern city with wide green zones marks the end of the stage. Tres Cantos offers the pilgrim all the necessary services for a good rest and a much more relaxed atmosphere than that of the city center. It is an episode of contrasts, which combines the grandeur of the capital with the surprising nature of its surroundings.
