Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spain, is the starting point of its own Jacobean route: the Camino de Madrid. Starting the pilgrimage from "kilometer zero" of the country, at the Puerta del Sol, is an experience unique that combines the energy of a great metropolis with the spirituality of the journey to Santiago. Before embarking on the march, the pilgrim can obtain their credential in the Cathedral of Santiago and immerse themselves in an unparalleled cultural offer: the Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, the Plaza Mayor or the Retiro Park are just some of its jewels. The path begins from the heart of the city towards the northwest, in an initial urban stretch that gradually transforms, seeking the nature of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Madrid offers all imaginable services for the pilgrim to prepare perfectly for a demanding and solitary path in many of its stretches. It is a beginning of pilgrimage that contrasts with the rural starts of other routes, an immersion in Spanish art and history as a prelude to the vastness of the Castilian tableland.
