Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

First stage of the Mozarabic Way that starts in Malaga and enters the Montes de Malaga to the north. The departure leaves the coastal capital and climbs through old rural roads between olive groves, almond and Aleppo pines, overlooking the bay of Malaga and the Mediterranean. After about 22 km demanding by the accumulated unevenness, Almogía is reached, a white village perched on a limestone hill with steep streets and traditional architecture axárquica. This is a transition stage from the coast to the interior of Malaga.
This is one of the most difficult, mythical and beautiful stages of the Camino Francés. The journey involves ascending from the Valcarce valley to the top of O Cebreiro, the entrance to Galicia. The first part is a gentle stroll, but the last kilometers from Herrerías are an unrelenting and extremely hard climb. The effort is extreme, but the reward is immense: a spectacular mountain landscape and the emotion of arriving at the magical village of O Cebreiro.
