Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Spectacular stage that climbs from the mining basin of Rio Tinto (with its famous lunar landscapes of reddish tones where NASA simulates Mars) to the Sierra de Aracena. The 30 km have an ascending profile with forests of holm oaks, cork oaks and chestnut trees. Aracena, capital of the Sierra, is home to the spectacular Gruta de las Maravillas (karst formations) and is the center of the Iberian acorn-fed pata negra ham.
The stage that connects Silla with Xàtiva is a long journey through the interior of the province of Valencia. The profile is a gentle but constant ascent. The landscape remains dominated by orange groves. It passes through localities such as Algemesí, declared a World Heritage Site for its festivals of the Mare de Déu de la Salut. Arrival in Xàtiva is the day's grand prize. This city, of immense historical importance, is dominated by its spectacular castle, with its walls and panoramic views. Xàtiva was the birthplace of the Borja family, which gave two popes to Christianity. Its old town is a treasure trove of churches, palaces, and fountains. It's an obligatory stop on the Camino del Sureste.
