Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
The first stage of the Southeastern Way starts in the city of Alicante. It is a transitional phase that takes the pilgrim out of the great city and into the Vinalopó valley. The profile is a gentle but continuous ascent. The landscape is a mix of urbanized areas and agricultural fields. Arrival in Monforte del Cid, a village with a rich history and an interesting heritage, offers a tranquil final stage in the heart of the region.
This stage enters the Gascony region, a land of hills and fields of cultivation. The route is demanding, with an undulating profile and continuous ups and downs. Arrival in Auch, capital of Gascony, with its imposing Cathedral of Saint Mary and Monumental Staircase, is a culturally rich final stage. This is an episode that requires good physical preparation but rewards with spectacular landscapes.
