Famous for its production of cava and wine, Requena has an impressive medieval old town, the Villa, with its caves, churches, and palaces. It's a monumental and enological stop of first order.
The stage that links Alatoz with Requena is a long journey that takes the pilgrim from Albacete province to Valencia province. The profile is demanding, with continuous ups and downs. The landscape is of great beauty, with extensive pine forests and vineyards. Arrival in Requena marks the end of the stage. This important city is the capital of the Utiel-Requena comarca, one of Spain's most significant wine and cava production zones. Its old town, known as La Villa, is a medieval maze of streets, with Gothic churches, palaces, and an impressive underground cave complex that can be visited. It is a must-see stop for history and wine enthusiasts.
