Stage Description
Segunda jornada por el altiplano albaceteño, entre los 800 metros de Montealegre y los 850 de Pétrola, con un perfil menos plano de lo que aparenta: el camino roza los 980 metros en la Loma Larga antes de descender a la cubeta lagunar. Se sale de la plaza de los Caídos y se sigue la AB-302 hasta que una pista de tierra se desvía a la izquierda a la altura de La Higuera, la única aldea del recorrido. Después el itinerario avanza entre labrantíos y lagunas estacionales —Hoya Rosa y Hoya Elvira—, con Casa Nueva y Puerto Pinar como únicas referencias aisladas. El final llega junto a la Laguna de Pétrola, un humedal salino donde crían aves acuáticas y en el que es habitual ver flamencos.
The stage that joins Montealegre del Castillo with Pétrola is an immersion in the Manchegan plain. The profile is completely flat, and the road advances through dirt tracks that get lost in the horizon. The landscape is of austere beauty, with cereal fields. The great attraction of the journey is the Salty Lake of Pétrola, a wetland of great importance for the nesting of water birds, among which stands out the flamingo. It's a spectacle to observe these birds in their natural habitat. The arrival at Pétrola, a small Manchegan town, is the end of the stage. Its tranquil atmosphere is perfect for the pilgrim's rest.
