Stage Description
A 27.4-kilometre stage through the Ortegal district that rounds the Ortigueira estuary, one of the best-preserved coastal wetlands in Galicia. From Porto de Espasante the way follows the shore of the estuary to the town of Ortigueira, known for its harbour, its glazed galleries and the International Festival of the Celtic World held every summer. It then skirts the estuary along its western side, among salt marshes, sandbanks and small hamlets, to Cariño, a fishing port facing Cape Ortegal. The profile is mostly flat; the difficulty lies in the distance. From Cariño the climb up the Serra da Capelada begins the next day.
