Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Leaving behind the spectacular "leopard fjords" of Riaño, this stage of the Route Vadiniense enters an open mountain landscape. The profile is undulating, with a continuous rise and fall through valleys and hills. It's a beautiful day that runs through a privileged natural environment, with oak and beech forests, and views of the Riaño Mountain peaks. The route passes through small traditional villages. Arrival in Crémenes, a peaceful local town on the banks of the Esla River, offers well-deserved rest in the heart of Leónese mountains.
The stage that starts in Riaño is an immersion into the beauty of Eastern León Mountains. The path leaves behind the spectacular landscape of the reservoir and ventures into a terrain of valleys and mountains. The profile of the journey is a continuous up and down, with no major passes but with considerable accumulated slope. The route runs on dirt tracks and quiet local roads in a beautiful natural environment. It crosses lush forests of oaks and beeches, and enjoys magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. It passes through several small villages that preserve traditional mountain architecture, with stone houses and slate roofs.
