Discover Riaño

Riaño, and its spectacular mountainous surroundings, is one of the most impactful stops on the Ruta Vadiniense. The current town, built anew, sits at the edge of a large reservoir that flooded the old valley, creating a unique landscape known as the "Leonesse Fjords". The peaks of the Picos de Europa are reflected in the turquoise waters of the lake, offering an image of breathtaking beauty. For the pilgrim arriving from the Valdeón Valley, the arrival at Riaño is a moment of great visual impact. The locality is an important center for services in Eastern León Mountains, with accommodations, restaurants, and everything necessary for rest. Its bank with "the best views in the world" has become an icon for visitors. Although its history is marked by the nostalgia of the submerged village, the new Riaño has become a perfect base for exploring the Picos de Europa and enjoying nature. In the Camino de Santiago, it's a stop that gifts the walker with one of the most powerful and memorable images of the entire pilgrimage in northern Spain.
