Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This stage descends from the Montes Torozos to enter the Tierra de Campos region. The profile is mainly descending and flat. The landscape returns to that of large cereal plains, with an infinite horizon. It's a comfortable journey that allows for rapid progress. The destination is Medina de Rioseco, "The City of Admirals", one of the most monumental villages in Castilla y León. Its impressive church complex, its porticoed streets and the Canal of Castilla make it a first-class cultural stop.
The stage between Mota del Marqués and Medina de Rioseco is a transition phase that takes the pilgrim from the highlands of the Montes Torozos to the heart of the Campos de Castilla. The profile is very favorable, with a gentle descent. The landscape opens up again, and fields of grain become the main protagonists once more. The path runs on dirt tracks in an environment of great tranquility. Arrival at Medina de Rioseco is the day's grand prize. Known as "The City of Castilla's Admirals", this historic village boasts exceptional monumental heritage. Its churches, such as Santa María de Mediavilla, Santiago or Santa Cruz, house genuine treasures of Renaissance and Baroque art. Its porticoed streets, its dock on the Canal of Castilla, and lively atmosphere make it one of the most interesting stops on the Madrid Way. It is essential to dedicate time to explore its wonders.
