A stage through southern Saintonge. The roughly 19 km link Saintes with Pons, a town with a 12th-century medieval keep, the former pilgrims' hospital (Hôpital des Pèlerins, UNESCO World Heritage) and a walled old quarter. The landscape is one of Cognac vineyards and cereal fields.
The stage from Saintes to Pons is a day that heads into the Saintonge region. The way sets out from Saintes and follows a rolling profile, with a gentle climb towards Pons. The route crosses a landscape of great beauty, with the vineyards that produce the famous cognac. It is a pleasant walk that lets you enjoy the scenery and the peace of the surroundings. Arrival in Pons, a medieval town dominated by its imposing keep, makes for a charming end to the stage. It is a stage that combines gentle exercise with a rich historical experience, a perfect balance on the Via Turonensis.
