Stage Description
Stage through the heart of the Alcarria alcarreña. The 18 km link Salmerón with Viana de Mondéjar through the characteristic landscape of the Alcarria: cereal fields in the moors, valleys with olive groves and ancient junipers. Viana de Mondéjar is a small town in the Señorío de Mondéjar with an agricultural tradition and traditional honey.
This stage marks the entry into Cantabria. It is a day of great beauty that combines interior sections with spectacular views of the coast. The profile is a continuous rise and fall. The route runs through a landscape of green meadows and cliffs. Arrival in Castro Urdiales, one of the most beautiful coastal villages in Cantabria, is the big prize of the day. Its port, its castle-lighthouse and its Gothic church of Santa María de la Asunción form one of the most famous postcards of the Cantabrian coast.
