Stage Description
This stage is a short mountain day that prepares the pilgrim for crossing to Cantabria. The profile is a gentle ascent through an alpine landscape of great beauty. The route runs through the valley of La Pernía, with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. It's a stage to enjoy the tranquility and vastness of Palentine Mountain. The destination, the small village of Camasobres, is the last town in Palencia on the route, a haven of peace at over 1,200 meters above sea level, ideal for rest before the demanding crossing of the pass the next day.
The stage that connects San Salvador of Cantamuda with Camasobres is a short but highly alpine tasting journey. The road continues to ascend gently through the valley of La Pernía, in the heart of the Palentina Mountains. The landscape is spectacular, with high mountain meadows, forests and the peaks of the Cantabrian Range getting closer and closer. It's an itinerary for walking without haste, enjoying the fresh air and silence. The route passes by small traditional villages that seem frozen in time. Arrival at Camasobres, a small village located over 1,200 meters above sea level, is the end of the stage. It's the last inhabited nucleus of Palencia before crossing into Cantabria via the Puerto de Piedrasluengas. The mountain atmosphere and tranquility are perfect for a restorative break before tackling the demanding next day.
