Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Coastal stage with two main options. The official one crosses Mount Igueldo from San Sebastian and continues inland to Orio, crossing the valley of the river that bears its name, before climbing a final steep slope to Zarautz. An alternative route along the coast passes through Getaria, the fishing village where the navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano was born, famous for its grilled turbot and txakoli. The route is about 22 km long, with an undulating profile and constant views of the Bay of Biscay. Zarautz is known for its beach of more than 2 km, one of the longest in the Basque Country.
