This stage marks the entry into Burgos province, in the beautiful Mena Valley. The profile is of medium mountain, with continuous rise and fall through a landscape of green meadows, forests and small traditional villages. It's a day of great beauty and solitude. Arrival at Villasana de Mena, the valley capital, offers a peaceful final stage with a strong sense of history.
The journey between Balmaseda and Villasana de Mena is a medium mountain stage that takes the pilgrim from Bizkaia to the province of Burgos. The route enters the Valley of Mena, a region of exceptional beauty. The profile is a continuous "breakneck" that traverses a landscape of dense green meadows, dotted with oak and beech forests. Arrival in Villasana de Mena, the capital of the valley, marks the end of the stage. This town boasts an interesting heritage, including the Church of Our Lady of Remedies and the Velasco Tower. It is a peaceful place with a strong sense of history, perfect for the pilgrim's rest and to enjoy the lush nature of this corner of Castile and León.
