Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage descends from the Toledo Hills to re-enter the heart of La Mancha. The profile is mainly descending. The great incentive of the journey is the arrival at Consuegra, one of the icons of La Mancha. Its Calderico hill, crowned by twelve windmills and an imposing medieval castle, forms one of Spain's most famous scenes. It is a mandatory stop on Don Quixote's route.
This stage enters the Gascony region, a land of hills and fields of cultivation. The route is demanding, with an undulating profile and continuous climbs and descents. Arrival in Auch, the capital of Gascony, with its imposing Cathedral of Saint Mary and Monumental Staircase, is a culturally rich finale. It's a stage that requires good physical preparation but rewards with spectacular landscapes.
