Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

This long stage marks the passage of Extremadura to Castile and León. The journey involves ascending the Puerto de Béjar pass, overcoming the natural barrier of the Central System. After reaching the top, the route enters the Salamanca tableland, in a landscape of dehesas. It is an episode of great beauty and difficulty. The destination is Fuenterroble de Salvatierra, a small town that is a spiritual milestone on the Camino thanks to its exceptional parish hostel, an unforgettable place of welcome.
The stage that unites Baños de Montemayor with Fuenterroble de Salvatierra is a long and demanding day that involves crossing the Central System. The road leaves Baños and begins the ascent to the Béjar Pass, which marks the border between Extremadura and Castile and León. The climb is partly on the ancient Roman road. Beyond the pass, the landscape changes radically. The pilgrim enters the Salamanca tableland, in a landscape of oak woodlands and wild cattle farms. The route follows dirt tracks, in an environment of great beauty and solitude. Arrival at Fuenterroble de Salvatierra is one of the most special moments on the Way of the Plata. Its parochial hostel, run for decades by the charismatic Father Blas, is one of the most iconic and beloved places of all the Caminos de Santiago. The hospitality, community dinner, and fraternal atmosphere here are an unforgettable experience.
