Stage Description

This stage continues through the beautiful Ambroz Valley, on a terrain of continuous ascent. The landscape is of great beauty, with oak and beech forests, and traditional villages. The route follows the path of the Roman road, with spectacular paved sections. The destination is Baños de Montemayor, a thermal village known since Roman times. Its spa offers the pilgrim the possibility of a relaxing bath, an ideal reward after a day of effort and beauty.
The journey to Baños de Montemayor is one of the most beautiful on the Via de la Plata in Extremadura. The path ascends the Ambroz Valley, with a continuous but generally gentle climb. The landscape is spectacular, with lush forests of oaks and beeches, especially in autumn when the valley takes on orange hues. The route largely follows the Roman road, and pilgrims can walk over well-conserved paved sections. The journey passes through the village of Aldeanueva del Camino. Arrival at Baños de Montemayor marks the end of the stage. This town is famous for its thermal waters, which were already being exploited by the Romans. Its Roman bathhouse is the perfect place for a pilgrim to relax and recover their muscles. The old quarter of Baños retains traditional local architecture and an extremely welcoming atmosphere.
