Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Full stage in the Sierra de Segura in Albacete, with a moderate route of about 22 km. The road runs through pine forests, olive groves and orchards irrigated by the tributaries of the Mundo river. The landscape alternates small meadows with arid highlands and allows to contemplate the traditional mountain architecture of lime and stone. The destination, Elche de la Sierra, is famous for its Corpus Christi sawdust carpets (declared of Cultural Interest) and for its traditional esparto grass industry. Comfortable stage in distance, ideal after the hardness of the previous day.
The stage that connects Ventas de Narón with Palas de Rei is the second half of the classic Portomarín-Palas de Rei stage. The road continues through the Ligonde Mountains, in a terrain of continuous undulations. It passes by the highest point on the mountain and the famous Lameiros Cross. Arrival at Palas de Rei marks the end of the stage. This village, whose name evokes an old royal palace, is today an important service center on the Camino, with a wide range of hostels, restaurants, and shops. It's the perfect place to replenish energy, enjoy local cuisine, and prepare for the final stages before reaching the great goal in Santiago de Compostela.
