Stage Description

This stage enters the heart of rural Guipuzcoa, the Goierri region's comarca. The profile is demanding, a continuous rise and fall through a mountain landscape of great beauty. The route passes through beech and oak forests, and isolated farmhouses. It's a journey of great solitude and authenticity. The destination is Zerain, a small village that is an example of sustainable rural development, with its ethnographic museum and traditional atmosphere.
The journey between Tolosa and Zerain is an immersion into deeper, more rural Guipúzcoa. The pilgrim leaves the Oria valley to ascend to the interior sierras, in a demanding and mountainous stage. The path runs through a beautiful landscape, through dense forests of beeches and oaks, and lush green meadows. The route passes by small villages and dispersed farmhouses, in an environment of great solitude. It is a stage to enjoy nature in its purest state and the tranquility of one of the least populated areas of the province. Arrival at Zerain is the reward for a day's effort. This small town is a model of heritage conservation and sustainable rural development. Its ethnographic museum, old prison, and local products shop are must-visit attractions. The atmosphere in Zerain is of overwhelming authenticity and peace, a perfect place to rest and connect with Basque traditions.
