Stage Description

This is one of the longest and most solitary stages of the Way to Finisterre, which crosses an interior Galicia, a deserted and beautiful region. The route is demanding, with a broken profile and long climbs, such as that of Alto do Mar de Ovellas. The landscape is dominated by mountains, forests, and small scattered villages. The sense of isolation is very deep. It's a day that requires good preparation and provisions. The destination is the small village of Olveiroa, a traditional stone architecture nucleus that has risen thanks to the Way.
The stage between Negreira and Olveiroa is a deep immersion in rural and unknown Galicia. It's a long and demanding day that will test the pilgrim's endurance. The profile is a continuous up and down, with long and stretched ascensions like the one to Mount Aro. The path runs through a beautiful territory but very sparsely populated. Extensive pine and eucalyptus forests are crossed, and small villages seem frozen in time. The feeling of loneliness is constant, making it an ideal stage for introspection. It's crucial to plan well the day, as there are few points of refreshment. As the day progresses, the pilgrim ascends towards the plateau where Olveiroa is set. The arrival at Olveiroa is a relief and a pleasant surprise. This small village, almost abandoned, has been beautifully restored and today is an example of traditional Galician architecture, with its stone houses, towers and crossroads. Completely dedicated to the pilgrim, it offers several hostels and restaurants.
