Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
This stage is a total immersion in the olive grove of Jaén. The path runs over an undulating terrain, constantly rising and falling through a landscape dominated by this ancient cultivation. It's a day of great scenic beauty, although with little shade. The route, on dirt paths, allows you to enjoy solitude and the vastness of Andalusian countryside. The arrival in Martos, known as "The Olive Grove's Cradle", is an important milestone. The city, protected by its Peña, offers a rich historical heritage and all necessary services for the pilgrim.
The journey between Torredelcampo and Martos is a monograph about the Jienese olive. The pilgrim immerses himself in a hypnotic landscape, an ocean of olives that stretches in all directions, covering the gentle hills of the countryside. The profile is undulating, a "steep hill" that demands good rhythm. The path advances mainly along olive grove service roads, in a solitary environment. It's an stage to enjoy Andalusia's light and a landscape shaped by man over centuries. The arrival at Martos is impactful. The city sits at the feet of a imposing rocky peak, crowned with the remains of a castle. Martos is one of the world's major olive oil producers. Its old town preserves a notable heritage, such as the ancient prison and council, the Royal Church of Santa Marta and the New Fountain. It's a city with a great range of services and a perfect place for the pilgrim to rest and immerse himself in olive oil culture.
