Martos is a city of great historical and economic importance in the province of Jaén, and a key stop on the Mozarabic Route. Considered by many to be the birthplace of olive oil, it is surrounded by a landscape of ancient olive trees. Its urban profile is dominated by the imposing Peña mountain, where the remains of its medieval castle are located. The old town preserves a rich heritage, with the Royal Church of Santa Marta, the old prison and town hall, and the New Fountain.
