Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

First cycling stage of the Central Portuguese Way from the border with Portugal. From Tui we cross the Louro River and go through the industrial area of O Porriño (with a river detour recommended to avoid traffic). The route continues through Mos and Alto de A Madalena, where we gain altitude before descending to the valley of Redondela, overlooking the Vigo estuary. After Redondela, the route skirts the estuary passing through Arcade, famous for its oysters, crosses the medieval bridge of Pontesampaio (scene of a battle against the Napoleonic troops) and reaches Pontevedra, capital of the Rías Baixas with one of the best preserved historic centers in Galicia. About 52 km of stage with undulating profile and varied road surface.
The first stage of the Fisterra bike epilogue is an enjoyable ride through rural Galicia. The route is undulating but without major difficulties, ideal for starting this last part of the journey. The path goes through forests and villages, in a very peaceful environment. The arrival at Negreira, with its pazo and medieval bridge, is a stage end with charm.
