Tui is the solemn gateway to Galicia for pilgrims walking the Camino Portugués. Set on the banks of the Miño River, directly across from the Portuguese town of Valença, this historic city offers a monumental welcome. Its hallmark is the impressive Catedral de Santa María, rising like a fortress above the city, a magnificent example of Galician Romanesque and Gothic. For the pilgrim, arriving in Tui and stamping the credential at its cathedral is a moment charged with symbolism, the start of the final stretch of just over 100 kilometers to Santiago. Its old town, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets that invite you to lose yourself, discovering churches, convents, and charming corners such as the túnel de las Clarisas.
