Stage of the Camino

Stage Description

Short stage (12 km) of the Camino Manchego that crosses the southern foothills of the Montes de Toledo. The route runs through olive groves, Mediterranean scrubland and holm oak groves along traditional paths, with a moderate profile and some small climbs. Los Yébenes, a town in Toledo with a long hunting tradition due to its proximity to the Cabañeros National Park, preserves a rural architectural heritage and is known for its traditional festivities in honor of Santa Bárbara.
The final stage of the Madrid Way is a short and exciting journey that connects Villalón de Campos with Sahagún. The profile is completely flat, a last stroll through the Land of Campos before the great convergence. The path advances over dirt tracks in an environment of great tranquility, passing by Santervás de Campos, the birthplace of Florida's discoverer, Juan Ponce de León. Arrival at Sahagún is a very special moment. Here, the Madrid Way pilgrim joins the French Way. The atmosphere changes completely, and the solitude of previous stages gives way to bustle and multiculturalism of the main route. Sahagún is a village of immense historical and artistic importance. Cradle of Mudéjar art, its churches of San Tirso and San Lorenzo are two masterpieces. The ruins of the Monastery of San Benito, one of the most powerful in Christendom, and the Pilgrim Sanctuary complete an exceptional heritage. It's the perfect final stage for the Madrid Way and a great starting point to continue on to Santiago.
