Stage Description

This stage takes us into the Valcarce valley, a prelude to the passage to Galicia. The 22 km run parallel to the river Valcarce, with a gentle ascent through traditional villages of the Bierzo Alto. The route crosses Vega de Valcarce and Ruitelán before reaching Las Herrerías, a small historic village where horseshoes were traditionally made for pilgrims' horses.
The first stage of the Fisterra and Muxía Way is a 21 km journey that moves away from monumental Santiago. The path starts in Santiago de Compostela (260 m) and follows a mainly descending profile, with some undulations, until the town of Negreira (100 m). The route passes through a beautiful landscape, with forests and meadows. It's a quiet and easy walk, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and arrive on time to explore the destination town. Negreira, a village with a pazo and a medieval bridge, is a charming final stage.
