Stage of the Camino
Stage Description
Transition stage between the provinces of Malaga and Cordoba. The 16 km route crosses the administrative border between the two Andalusian provinces through a landscape of endless olive groves, characteristic of the subbetic countryside. The profile is smooth and allows a relaxed walk. Encinas Reales is a small town in the Subbetica region of Cordoba, historically linked to olive cultivation and already established in the D.O. Lucena Oil. Short stage that makes it easy to combine with cultural visits en route.
This stage is one of the most crowded on the Camino, as it is the first full day for those starting in Sarria. The route is a continuous up and down through rural Galicia at its most typical, along "corridors" shaded by oaks and chestnuts. The road is dotted with countless small villages, towers and crossroads. An important milestone is the milestone of kilometer 100 to Santiago. The stage ends with the descent to the River Miño and crossing of its long bridge to enter Portomarín, a rebuilt village with a singular fortress-church.
