Gijón (Xixón in Asturian), the most populous city of Asturias, is a vibrant and lively stop on the Camino del Norte. Open to the Cantabrian Sea, it welcomes pilgrims with its spectacular San Lorenzo beach, an urban sandy area that invites strolling and relaxation. The historic heart of the city is the Cimavilla neighborhood, an old fishing village situated on a hill, with narrow streets, colorful houses, and an unbeatable cider culture. Here you can find "The Ode to the Horizon" by Chillida, an icon of the city. For the walker, Gijón is a great center for services, offering a wide range of hostels, exquisite gastronomy, and lively cultural life. Enjoying some ciders in its "chigres" (cider bars) is an essential social and cultural experience. The city perfectly combines its Roman and industrial past with modernity.
